Artist Statement: Allie is a local Rochester artist who dabbles in many mediums. Her main project for the past 10 years has been bookbinding. Her handbound journals are made from 100% recycled and reclaimed materials and the covers feature unique collages. As she walks the artist path, painting, drawing, and other media are entering the scope of her work. The mountain motif she explores is inspired by the hills of the Finger Lakes and the mountains of the Catskills, the Adirondacks, and Vermont. By exploring this theme in both drawing and painting, she aims to provide the viewer with a uniquely calming and meditative experience that also engages them in the movement and life of a seemingly stagnant landscape.
Allie is taking part in this fundraiser for Roc the Future because an activist mission is coming to life in the work she does in the world, artistic and otherwise. Even though the imagery in her art is not directly political, she knows that putting dollars in the hands of the right people can lead to enormous positive and progressive change. Additionally, as someone who benefited from a suburban and primarily white education and as a City of Rochester resident, Allie wants to give back to the community by supporting the efforts of those who are providing nurturing, constructive, and expressive education to the students of Rochester City Schools.
